  Judaic Studies Program

The R.A.S.G. Hebrew Academy offers various programs that are designed to cater to the diverse nature of our students. With the help of the Lookstein Center for Jewish studies, our teachers and administrators have worked tirelessly to develop and integrate a curriculum that will address the needs of our student population. Among the innovative programs offered are the following:

Ulpan/Mechina Program

Addressing the growing number of students entering the school with a limited Judaic studies background, the Lookstein Center has designed a curriculum the will allow students the ability to be mainstreamed in the shortest possible time. Educators fluent in Spanish will be working with our South American students, allowing for a smoother transition into our regular program.

Of major importance is our concern that the students study both conversational and grammatical Hebrew. We now offer classes that span from ulpan/basic Hebrew to Honors Ivrit for the advanced student.

Masmidim Program

The heart of our Judaic Studies program for the boys is the Masmidim program (a Masmid is a person who exhibits diligence, commitment and consistency in his approach to Torah study). A stated goal of the R.A.S.G. Hebrew Academy is to encourage our students to spend a year of study in Eretz Yisrael. The underlying philosophy that spearheads the Masmidim  program is our desire to allow the Jewish student graduating the R.A.S.G. Hebrew Academy, the full array of choices as to what field of study he or she would like to pursue. In the same manner that our general studies program primes our students to enter the university of their choice, our Masmidim program prepares the student to enter the Yeshiva in Eretz Yisrael of choice. This rigorous curriculum requires a high level of interest and motivation, extended class hours, as well as a willingness to spend time outside of the classroom in text analysis and preparation.

Hemshech/Beit Midrash Program

At the R.A.S.G. Hebrew Academy we pride ourselves with individualizing and focusing on the abilities and strengths of each student. A program designed by Torah Mesorah that dovetails with our attempt to cater to the individual is the Hemshech program offered to our 12th Grade students. Students are given the option of studying independently with a Torah scholar from one of our local Yeshivot. This form of study allows each student to develop their skills and broaden their knowledge at their own pace and level. We are currently developing an equivalent program for the girls that will be introduced for the 2002/2003 school year.

General Studies Program

Exploration and innovation are at the core of the curriculum at the RASG Hebrew Academy.  High School students refine skills related to hands-on scientific exploration and analysis that were learned in Elementary and Middle School in preparation to enter accelerated academic programs at various universities. Each grade is involved in projects that integrate exploration with the traditional disciplines of Math, Science, Social Studies and Technology.  Students in the 10th and 11th grades are required to develop a long-term interdisciplinary research project that is entered in Local, State and National Science Expositions. Other programs in the High School, such as Economics, World Literature, European Art and Music also follow an exploratory model, allowing students to find their own voice.

Lower level honors students at the Academy are required to take SAT II exams in Science, Math and English in preparation for a rigorous upper-level College Preparatory program.  AP course are provided in 12 different disciplines.
