Science National Honors Society

 Home

As a SNHS member, each student has access to valuable opportunities and experiences that will undoubtedly enrich their academic life and offer more college-related options.  Merit-based scholarships are awarded nationwide to qualifying seniors who posses the ability to make a difference in science as demonstrated in coursework, creativity, leadership, citizenship and volunteerism. Membership includes a select group of juniors and seniors who have an overall G.P.A. above 3.0 (un-weighted) with an honors science G.P.A. of 3.5 (un-weighted) or better.

The national objectives of this organization are as follows:

  • Encourage and recognize scientific and intellectual thought
  • Advance the students’ knowledge of classical and modern science
  • Communicate with the scientific community
  • Aid the civic community with its comprehension of science
  • Encourage students to participate in community service and in turn, encourage a dedication to the pursuit of scientific knowledge that benefits all of mankind

The Hebrew Academy chapter realizes these objectives through annual Yeddidim research projects, the creation and maintenance of an elementary through high school science mentoring center, hosting and judging the high school science fair, and involvement in local scientific lectures.

Science is truly woven into the fabric of society at every level and we hope that the Science National Honor Society will help to culture new scientists who will follow in the steps of Plato, Newton, Einstein, and Hawkings.  The students we nurture today can change the world of tomorrow for a better place.
